When Katie’s six-year-old daughter Elsa began painting with her, their collaboration blurred the boundaries between her roles as artist, teacher, and mother and became an integral part of her studio practice. She questions why social labels make those identities seem incompatible, why she has been advised not to acknowledge this communal approach, and whether nurturing, sharing, and teaching should be seen as weaknesses rather than truths of her lived experience.
